STARTING THE DAY
He stood in the cold, staring at the rain fall as night falls on a quiet dessert, ending the restless day. He had knocked on the door more than once, and at this hour he wasnt surprised that he still waited. He continued to look at the falling rain and was amazed at the peace it gave to his soul. The parking lot light gave away the rains cloak of darkness, almost showing each drop as it fell. What a wonderful sight, along with the silent noise of the water hitting pavement.
He checked his watch once more. 4:59 a.m. it read. He knocked once more on the door, using his car keys to sound through the store. While waiting, he looked once more at the falling rain. Beautiful, he though but still no answer. He pulled his cell phone from his pocket and dialed a stored number.
Good Morning, the voice on the other end said. How can I help you?
Hey, Im standing here in the rain waiting to be let in.
Ok, Ill be right there. He hung up without saying goodbye, knowing it was an understood. Within seconds a short, older woman appeared at the door, with jingling keys in hand. She unlocked the door and pushed it open.
Im sorry, I didnt hear you knock, I was in my own little world, she said.
Thats no problem, and with a final glance at the falling deluge, he walked inside the store to begin the day.
