check out #2 - beating out VH, Rush and Rolling Stones!!!!!
This year promises to be an exciting year in music with a scheduled return of Van Halen, a possible 50th anniversary tour from the Rolling Stones and a couple artists we’ve yet to meet. From international stars to breakout artists from Canada and around the world, here’s the RockStar Weekly Top 12 RockStars To Watch For In 2012:
1. Porcelain Black
After a false start with a bad recording contract in 2006, American pop-rock dynamo Porcelain Black tops our list for 2012. The gravelly-voiced singer will be releasing her debut album this year through RedOne's Universal Republic imprint and judging by the sounds of the first two singles (This Is What Rock N’ Roll Looks Like and Naughty Naughty), we’re in for a treat. Watch for Black in the Beavis and Buthead TV series, the new Rock of Ages movie and further runaway appearances like last year’s Falguni and Shane Peacock Spring 2012 fashion show.
2. The Envy
Having signed with Simmons Records in 2011, Canadian rockers The Envy have teased fans with music from their upcoming debut album throughout the year and at gigs opening for KISS and Finger Eleven. The highly anticipated debut is currently being recorded in Los Angeles and should be released sometime this year.
3. The Rolling Stones
The rumors are too big to ignore. Ramblings have been coming since mid-2011 that a 50th anniversary Rolling Stones world tour might see the light of day in 2012. If this is true, then all that is holy in rock n’ roll will have to be put aside as the masters take to the stage once again.
4. Van Halen
Van Halen with David Lee Roth on vocals is nothing new. It’s been done before in 2007, but this time a new album will accompany the 2012 tour. The band's new album with Roth on vocals will be released on February 7, 2012.
5. Nero Zero
Canadian punk-hard rockers Nero Zero were one of the best kept secrets in 2011. The band extensively toured Canada’s east coast for the better part of the summer and fall, ending a six-month stay in the country with a New Year’s Eve show in Kingston, ON. The band hits the road to New Zealand in March and will return to Canada in the summer.
6. Famous Underground
Out of the ashes of Revolver, Toronto hard rockers Famous Underground are the real deal. With flash, balls, big guitar and a real arena rock sound, Famous Underground are poised to take their self titled debut album and an upcoming concept video to the world in 2012.
7. Rush
Canada’s legendary rockers Rush will be releasing their 19th studio album Clockwork Angels in the spring. This is the band’s first new release since 2007’s Snakes and Arrows. A tour will most likely follow.
8. Summers
UK arena rockers Summers sound something like 80s Def Leppard and Bon Jovi. The English speaking lads will be releasing their debut album 364 in 2012 and plan to tour Europe and the US. Hopefully we’ll get a Canadian date or two.
9. X Japan
The biggest rock band in Japan has been talking about releasing an English album in North America for a couple years. The band kept its promise to tour the continent in 2010 and performed one of the best shows of the year in Vancouver. They also released their first English single, Jade, in 2011. We are X.
10. PJ Wilson
Barrie, Ontario R&B singer PJ Wilson gave us a sample of his music through a 4-song CD called Preface. The collection shows that Canadians can compete in R&B. If you dig Maroon 5, Usher and Boyz II Men, PJ Wilson will rock your world.
11. Neverest
Having supported the Canadian dates for NKOTBSB's (New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys) North American Tour, Neverest are a Canadian band on the rise. Co-manager and Backstreet Boy Howie D described their sound as OneRepublic meets Backstreet Boys.
12. Said The Whale
With a 2011 Juno for New Group of The Year and a new album, Little Mountain, set to drop in March, Vancouver’s Said The Whale are the perfect catch in 2012. To accompany the album’s release, the band will be featured in a CBC television special, Winning America, documenting their travels to the South By Southwest festival in Austin, Texas in 2011.
