How old were you when you first got into KISS?
Was Paul your favorite right away? When did you decide to start a tribute band? Man, I could go on all day. |

First the "Official Serious Question":
What type of "Red Tape" did you have to go through to be able to put the group together. For example...did you have to get specific permission from Kiss, i.e. Gene & Paul, to use the images(make-up & costumes) & music? Or is that something that doesn't come into play. Now the "other type" question What do you think about the Mr. Speed "groupies"? SEE Linda!!! I asked NOTHING about the SPARKLIES! |

How do you figure out your set list?
How do you come to choose some rarities over others? can you tell us how wearing the starchild garb has effected you in any way? What has been some of you strangest or most interesting reactions to the make up, persona, and outfit? |

I know you have taken heat as a Trib band. How do you deal with the "Over Critical Kiss Fan?" Have there ever been any over the top jerks that you would have just liked to pound into the pavement?

Rich answered my questions in that interview from the PSP fanzine. But I'm with you SB "Can we expect a video release of the Myrtle Beach show??" please oh please!
Is the current lineup of Mr. Speed the same from the beginning? Have any members come and gone? |

Re: Give us your questions for Rich/MR SPEED | ||
Quote: Hi, Thanks for my first "official" question. Let's see, how old was I when I first got into KISS? I was 12! I saw the commercial for the KISS radio on television and wanted to know more. Coincidentally I made friends with a new kid on our block at the time and he was already into them. He had the "U.S. Tour '76" poster on his bedroom wall and I was hooked. Second...Paul was not my favorite right away. I was equally into each member until the "Solo Albums" came out. I had to choose between Paul's and Peter's at my local record store. I went with Paul's and it's been a dedication ever since. Lastly, I started MR.SPEED in 1994. The original idea was between myself and the original "Ace" to just get together and play KISS songs for our own enjoyment. Before we knew it we were auditioning people and things just escalated from there. Here I am 13 years later and it's never been better! Thanks for your question. |

Hi
Have you ever attended to another KISS tribute band's concert? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Quote: Personally speaking I haven't had to use any kind of tape to start or maintain MR.SPEED for all these years. I've had 3 different occasions to speak with Gene about our band and I've always thanked him for the opportunity to allow us to do our tribute to them. The most memorable meeting was backstage in Pittsburgh on the "Psycho Circus" Tour. I had a few minutes and I thanked him that night. He took his hand and placed it on my heart and told me "as long as it comes from here you can do it as long as you'd like". He when on to say that he's "aware that there are tributes out there doing it for the wrong reasons and when he feels as though it's getting out of hand he may step in". I have nothing but respect for what KISS created and I never forget it. As for the "MR.SPEED Groupies" I think that they're great! That's not to say that I haven't encountered people along the way that haven't taken it too far because I have. Some have remained friends to this day. Some have gone with the wind. I've learned how to from time to time see through whether or not someone is sincere with their sentiment or not. But in the end you get what you give. If I expect respect then I show respect. Thanks for your question! |

Quote: Hi, we're in the process of completing a DVD of our experience in Myrtle Beach. Our intention is to add at least the performance of "Shock Me" to our official site, www.mrspeedonline.com as soon as we can. I also hope to make available photos from the event for everyone to see very soon. Thanks for your question. |

The set list is always a combination of what the fans expect and what we expect of ourselves. We all have favorite songs from all of the albums and I have always believed in pushing the limits of the band to give the fans the best selection possible. There are limits to what we can do but for the most part I think since day one our set lists have never just been "ALIVE! & ALIVE II". As for how the outfit has effected me over the years I think that it's helped me to develop a stronger confidence in myself as a person. You'd have to be somewhat confident to wear any of Paul's outfits for the most part wouldn't you say? I love the reaction of fans when they're watching me on stage. I think the guys watch me and wonder how they would look if they were wearing it and the girls look at me and wonder other things! It never ceases to amaze me what people will say and or do when I'm dressed up like Paul.

Sure! I think it's human nature to be, first of all, jealous of someone that has something that others may not. People by nature find it easier to put someone down rather than celebrate along with them. Whether it's an original band or a tribute band most people, especially disgruntled musicians just think that life has given them a "free pass" to slam other musicians for whatever reason. Say what they will I wonder if they're playing this Friday and Saturday like we are?

Hello Rich. It is a real pleasure having you with us. This is great!! I hope you don't mind some Q's about your bands equipment or playing styles etc... also. My first one is KISS related though.
My first question is how did you become Paul in your band. Did you guys do it by who looked the most each member of KISS? You look so cool up there in Myrtle Beach video with ACE. Excellent job!!! Geoff |
