One thing that's always made me curious about the Dynasty Era was the variations of costuming that Paul and Gene had--especially this one Gene is wearing. There aren't a ton a shots of him wearing this costume, and I'm wondering if anybody can tell me what the occasion was? My guess is that they did a special "unveiling" show for the Dynasty Tour...it's pretty cool, and maybe somebody can shed some light on this!

A very special night for me, all of 14 years old, my sisters and parents. At the time I was a little confused about the Dynasty album music, being the departure that it was. But I've always had diverse tastes, even as a kid, so it was all okay. My parents bought us all tickets in advance, and the anticipation of the coming show was intense. To all of us they were truly "larger than life," and two of us had had dreams about the band the night before the concert. We all loaded into our huge station wagon and drove the 75 miles up the coast from our home in Santa Cruz to south San Francisco...an adventure in itself! Priceless memories.

The opening band was The Rockets, who didn't play for very long, though it seemed like forever! There were NO seats in the middle so we had to stand the whole time! But I was the only one of us kids who could really see the band clearly, as I'm over 6' tall. KISS was Louder Than Hell, but it was an excellent show. I was lucky enough to get an Ace Frehley autographed guitar pic, the tour book, and one of the many yellow Kiss Army sponges dropped into the audience at the climax. I had waited over two years to see KISS in concert, and as it turned out I was one of the fortunate ones. I remember reading about Peter being unhappy in KISS, and though it was only rumor at the time, it turned out to be true--this was to be Peter Criss' final tour with KISS until many years later, and was his last as a full member of the band. We were hardcore about KISS being Paul, Ace, Gene and Peter; though the band and their management saw it differently, nobody could ever replace any of the four original members! The 1980s brought big changes, but for me their 70s output will always hold a place in my heart and imagination as something sacred.
