I was working at a summer program thru the YMCA. I was working with mouthy 6th graders. I told the head lady that the kids had no respect for adults. She looked at me and said, "These are different times you have to earn a kids' respect it's not automatically given." I tell you I quit that job. I was not going to have a 6th grader tell me to shut up. I was taught to respect adults. Avi is taught that too.

Back in my day growing up, I looked at teachers and adults as authority figures. I was too scared to talk back to them. I was recently living on a military installation. The kids on post would talk back to you, tell you off, etc. I am living in a civilian community now and I will tell you Avi's friends here have manners and respect for me. My mother in law said that Army kids are called "Army brats" for a reason!
